Day 01: Arrive Paro and Sightseeing | Altitude: 2280 m
Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, our representative will warmly welcome you. After hotel check-in, enjoy sightseeing in Paro, including visits to the National Museum (Ta-Dzong) and Paro Rinpung Dzong. Explore the charming Paro town in the evening. Overnight at hotel in Paro.
Day 02: Paro – Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery – Shana | 7 km hike, 2 hours
Today begins with a hike to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Paro Taktsang), perched dramatically on a cliff 900 m above the valley floor. After descending, drive to Shana, the starting point of the Yaksa trek. Overnight in camp at Shana.
Day 03: Shana – Thangthangkha | 22 km, 7–8 hours | Altitude: 3610 m
The trail follows the Paro River through dense forests of oak, rhododendron, and pine. You’ll pass several traditional wooden bridges and Bhutanese farmhouses. Tonight’s camp at Thangthangkha offers your first distant views of Mt. Jomolhari, weather permitting.
Day 04: Thangthangkha – Jangothang | 19 km, 5–6 hours | Altitude: 4080 m
Today’s trail continues up the valley, with beautiful views of alpine meadows, yaks, and wildflowers. You’ll pass the village of Soe before reaching Jangothang, the base camp of Mt. Jomolhari. One of the most beautiful campsites in Bhutan. Overnight in camp.
Day 05: Jangothang Halt | Altitude: 4080 m
Rest and acclimatization day. You can hike to the nearby ridges for fantastic views of Jomolhari and Jichu Drake or visit glacial lakes and yak herder camps. This day prepares you for the high mountain passes ahead.
Day 06: Jangothang – Dhumzo via Bonte La Pass | 16 km, 7–8 hours | Altitude: 4890 m
Cross the Bonte La Pass (4,890 m), the highest point on the trek, offering dramatic views of the Himalayas. Descend into the remote valley of Soi Yaktsa, reaching Dhumzo village. Camp near yak herder settlements.
Day 07: Dhumzo – Thombushong via Takhung La Pass | 14 km, 5–6 hours | Altitude: 4550 m
Ascend through forests and alpine landscapes to Takhung La Pass (4,520 m). From the pass, enjoy views of mountains and deep valleys before descending to the yak pastures of Thombushong. Overnight in camp.
Day 08: Thombushong – Zankepang | 18 km, 7–8 hours | Altitude: 4300 m
Descend gradually through forests and rocky terrain, passing waterfalls and remote herding camps before reaching the campsite at Zankepang. Enjoy your last night under the stars in the highlands of Bhutan.
Day 09: Zankepang – Drugyal Dzong – Drive to Thimphu | 7 km hike, 2 hours | Drive: 70 km / 1.5 hrs
The final leg of the trek is a gentle descent to the valley floor, ending near Drugyal Dzong. After meeting your vehicle, drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital city. Overnight at hotel in Thimphu.
Day 10: Thimphu Sightseeing | Altitude: 2334 m
Explore major sights in Thimphu including the Memorial Chorten, Buddha Dordenma, Tashichho Dzong, and the Folk Heritage Museum. Wander around the local markets or try traditional crafts. Overnight in Thimphu.
Day 11: Thimphu – Punakha Sightseeing – Return to Thimphu | 76 km, 3 hours
Drive to Punakha, Bhutan’s ancient capital. Visit the majestic Punakha Dzong, beautifully situated at the confluence of the Pho and Mo Chhu rivers. Return to Thimphu for overnight stay.
Day 12: Thimphu – Paro (Departure)
After breakfast, transfer to Paro International Airport for your departure. Your unforgettable trekking journey through the high Himalayas comes to an end.
