The Jomolhari Trek is one of Bhutan’s most spectacular and popular high-altitude treks, taking you deep into the heart of the Himalayas and offering breathtaking views of Mount Jomolhari (7,314 m), also known as the “Mountain of the Goddess.” This trek is ideal for those seeking a blend of natural beauty, adventure, and cultural immersion. Beginning near Paro and ending close to Thimphu, the trail passes through remote yak herder villages, pristine alpine forests, glacial rivers, and expansive meadows filled with wildflowers and rhododendrons. Along the way, trekkers cross high mountain passes such as Nyile La (4,870 m) and Yele La (4,930 m), where panoramic views of snow-clad peaks unfold.

Apart from the stunning scenery, the Jomolhari Trek also offers a glimpse into Bhutanese rural life, with opportunities to interact with nomadic herders and visit ancient dzongs (fortresses) nestled in isolated valleys. Wildlife such as blue sheep, marmots, Himalayan monals, and even the elusive snow leopard inhabit these regions, making it a rewarding experience for nature lovers. The trek is moderately to highly challenging due to the altitude and distance, requiring a good level of physical fitness and proper acclimatization. Best undertaken in spring (April to mid-June) or autumn (late September to mid-November), the Jomolhari Trek is a true Himalayan adventure that captures the spirit of Bhutan’s wild beauty and spiritual heritage.

  • Spectacular views of Mount Jomolhari (7,314 m): One of Bhutan’s most sacred and stunning peaks, visible from your campsite at Jangothang.
