Day 1: Arrive in Paro – Drive to Thimphu
Altitude: Paro – 2,200 m | Thimphu – 2,334 m
Distance: 54 km | Drive Time: ~1.5 hrs
You’ll be greeted upon arrival at Paro International Airport and then take a scenic drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s charming capital. Light sightseeing to acclimatize—visit the National Memorial Chorten or stroll through local markets. Overnight in Thimphu.
Day 2: Thimphu Sightseeing – Drive to Bumthang (via Trongsa)
Altitude: Bumthang – 2,800 m
Drive Time: ~9 hrs (or optional 35-min domestic flight)
Today is a long but rewarding drive across central Bhutan’s spectacular mountain passes. En route, stop at Trongsa Dzong and Yotong La Pass. Arrive in the spiritual heartland of Bhutan—Bumthang. Overnight in Bumthang.
Day 3: Bumthang Sightseeing & Acclimatization
Explore sacred temples such as Jambay Lhakhang, Kurje Lhakhang, and Tamshing Monastery, along with the impressive Jakar Dzong. Leisure walk through peaceful villages helps you acclimatize before the trek. Overnight in Bumthang.
Day 4: Trek Begins – Bumthang to Ngang Lhakhang
Distance: 8 miles | Trek Time: ~4 hrs
Elevation Gain: 800 ft
Begin your trek near Kurje Lhakhang and walk through farmlands and traditional villages like Thangbi. Reach Ngang Yul, the “Swan Land,” and visit the legendary Nga Lhakhang (Swan Temple). Camp overnight near the village.
Day 5: Ngang Lhakhang – Meadow Camp via Phephe La Pass
Distance: 7 miles
Elevation Gain: 2,247 ft | Elevation Loss: 1,847 ft
Highest Point: 11,647 ft
This is the most challenging day of the trek. Climb through forests of maple, rhododendron, and pine to Phephe La Pass. Descend into the Tang Valley, camping in a beautiful meadow beside a stream.
Day 6: Meadow Camp – Ugyencholing – Return to Bumthang
Distance: 7 miles | Elevation Loss: 543 ft
A relaxed walk along the Tang Chu (River). Visit Ugyencholing Palace, a heritage museum, and the sacred Tang Rimochen Lhakhang. Later, stop at the legendary Mebar Tsho (Burning Lake) before returning by vehicle to Bumthang. Overnight in Bumthang.
Day 7: Fly or Drive to Paro – Leisure Time
Return to Paro by flight or road. Upon arrival, unwind or explore local highlights like the Paro Dzong and Ta Dzong (National Museum). Shop for souvenirs or simply relax. Overnight in Paro.
Day 8: Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang)
Distance: 7 km round trip | Hike Time: ~4–5 hrs
Elevation Gain: ~900 m
Begin the iconic hike to Taktsang Monastery, perched dramatically on a cliffside. This spiritual journey is both rewarding and awe-inspiring. Return to Paro for a festive farewell dinner. Overnight in Paro.
Day 9: Departure from Paro
After breakfast, transfer to Paro International Airport. Your guide will assist with check-in and see you off with warm Bhutanese farewells and blessings for your onward journey.
